Make Sense of Your DXA Scan

You got the scan. Now understand it. An eight-lesson consumer micro-course that decodes your DXA (bone density) report in plain English — T-scores, Z-scores, what "osteopenia" and "osteoporosis" actually mean, and the questions to take to your GP. Includes a decode-your-own-report worksheet, a printable GP questions checklist, and a myth-busting section. GP-first, from an osteopath who reads these every week.

  •  How do I read a DXA scan? A DXA (or DEXA) scan reports bone density mainly as a T-score, which compares your bone density to a healthy young adult, and a Z-score, which compares it to people your own age. This course walks through both in plain English with a worksheet to decode your own report.
  • What do osteopenia and osteoporosis mean? They're categories based on T-score ranges that describe lower-than-typical bone density; the course explains where the thresholds sit and why context (age, history, fracture risk) matters more than the label alone.
  • Is this medical advice? No — it's consumer education designed to help you understand your results and have a better conversation with your GP or specialist. It's GP-first throughout and includes a printable checklist of questions to take to your doctor. Created by Dr Naomi (Osteopath) in Sydney.
